o Ontario HST rate is 13% .
o Ontario minimum wage is $14.00 an hour as of January 1, 2018.
o CPP Rules changed and Form CPT 30 may need to be filed for those 65-70 years old that no longer want to pay CPP. Please contact me for advice if your an employee of your own corporation. o CPP rate is 4.95% upto a salary of $55,900 (2017:$55,300). The basic exemption remains $3,500. Thus, the CPP maximum in 2018 is $2,593.80 (2017: $2,584.10)for employees which the employer matches.o CPP has to be paid for those between age 60 to 64.o EI rate for 2018 is 1.66% (2017 was 1.63%). The salaries up to $51,700 for 2018 (2017: $51,300 at 1.88%) will have EI on them as applicable. Thus, an employee in 2018 will pay $858.22 (2017: $836.19) and the employer pays 1.4 times these rates.
o the Ontario Government is allowing University and College Students to get 30% off the cost of their tuition (maximum is $1,600 for a full academic year) for families with income below $160,000. As with all government programs, a application form is needed. Also, forget about this claim if the parents annual family income is over $160,000.
Ontario Accessibility Act - Since January 1, 2012o Ontario Accessibility Act came into effect January 1, 2012. Thus, if you have one employee or more and operate in Ontario the Act will require you to have policies and procedures in place to serve the public. My office has completed the training and is compliant with the policies and procedures which came into effect. For those with 20 or more staff, you willl need to register your policies with the Ontario government. If you need some help, please contact me.
