2009 Federal Budget (English Version pdf)

2009 Ontario Budget - 03/26/2009

* Ontario will harmonize GST
    and PST on July 1, 2010 at
    13% rate.

    This will be a tax increase for
    those services which charge
    GST only today.

    Thus,  lawyers,  accountants,
     business consultants, taxi
    fares and architects fees
     are examples of items which         will all be more expensive
    to clients at that time.

    However, some items
    will be exempt from this new
    harmonized tax such as;
    Exempt books, children’s
    clothing and footwear, diapers,
    children’s car seats and car
     booster seats and feminine
    hygiene products from the
    eight per cent provincial
    portion of the tax

* Newly constructed houses
   under $400,000 will not have
   the extra tax burden, and a
   phase in up to $500,000.

* Eligible families with an
   income below $160,000 would
   receive three payments from
   the provincial government,
   totalling $1,000 ie $333.33 in
   July 2010, December 2010 and
   July  2011.

*  The Ontario Corporate Income
    Tax (CIT) rate will be cut for
    small businesses by 18 per
    cent.  ie down from approx
    5.4% to4.5% on July 1, 2010.

    Thus, .9% tax savings for the
    Ontario Small business rate
    next year for the second half
    of the year.
